Informational Guide

Welcome to

Suspension Of Disbelief

Our team is dedicated to creating safe, empowering, and transformative suspension experiences.

This page will guide you through preparation, suspension procedures, aftercare, and emotional integration.

Suspension is inherently risky, but our trained team follows strict safety protocols to
greatly minimize risk.

Before Suspension

Health & Hydration:

  • Eat a balanced meal and stay hydrated beforehand.
  • Avoid Fasting.

Substance Avoidance:

  • Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs for at least 48 hours prior.

Clothing:

  • Wear comfortable, breathable clothing suitable for your chosen suspension style.

Medical Information:

  • Share relevant medical history (e.g. blood disorders, skin conditions, heart conditions)

Support Person:

  • You may bring a friend or family member for emotional support.

During Setup & Hook Placement:

  • Consultation & Intentions: Discuss your goals and experience expectations.
  • Skin Preparation: Skin is marked and disinfected. Hooks are thoroughly reprocessed, sterilized, and fully safe to reuse.
  •  Rigging & Hooking: You are connected to the rig and gradually lifted under careful monitoring and at your pace.
  • Monitoring: Team members continuously check circulation, posture, breathing, and comfort.

During Suspension

  • Sensation: Pressure, warmth, mild discomfort; adrenaline and endorphins are normal.
  • Adjustments: You may request pauses or stops at any time.
  • Bleeding : Minimal bleeding is normal during piercing, suspension, and hook removal.
  • Photography: Optional, done when appropriate.

Aftercare Instructions

Wound Care

  • Keep dressings in place for the remainder of the day or overnight.
  • Clean gently 1–2 times daily using mild soap and water.
  • Light spotting or mild bleeding is normal for 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid picking scabs or disturbing healing tissue.
  • Small air pockets under the skin may appear; this usually resolves within 1–2 weeks.

Activity Guidelines

  • Rest for 24–48 hours after suspension.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for about one week.
  • Stay away from baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, and natural bodies of water until wounds are fully closed.

When to Seek Medical Help

  • Fever within 48 hours of suspension.
  • Increasing redness, swelling, or warmth.
  • Severe or worsening pain.
  • Thick, foul-smelling discharge.

Emotional Integration

Suspension can trigger profound emotional experiences including euphoria, calmness, tears, introspection, and fatigue.

Please note that these feelings are normal, and each experience is different.

You can ALWAYS reach out to us to discuss these emotions beforehand, during, and after your experience.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Safety, Hygiene & Standards:

  • Rigging and hardware are load-rated, inspected, and maintained.
  • All surfaces are disinfected using hospital-grade products.
  • Team members use full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Multiple trained practitioners supervise every suspension.

FAQs

Does it hurt?

Most people feel pressure more than sharp pain, followed by endorphin release.

Can I stop after hooks are in?

Yes — you may stop at any stage without

judgment.

Will it bleed?

Yes — some bleeding can occur during piercing, throughout the
suspension, and during hook removal.

Do I need to be fit?

No — suspension relies on skin elasticity, not muscle strength.

Is it safe?

Suspension always carries inherent risks; our trained team minimizes

these risks through professional procedures.

Can beginners suspend?

Absolutely.

First-time suspenders are fully supported.
